This is a precast offer on a new bison sculpture (shown in clay) that has been two years in the making. The piece was first inspired by an amazing female bison observed in Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone. She had an extraordinary set of horns and very distinguished facial features. The year after I began the sculpture, a remarkably rare event occurred—the birth of a white bison calf in Lamar Valley of Yellowstone. The odds of such a birth in the wild are estimated to be 1 in 10 million. The enthusiasm for this mayor of event was balanced against the fact that the young one was never seen after the day of its birth. I tried in vain to see the young white calf, but didn't succeed. The photos and stories from others inspired me to include a calf with this sculpture (which will include a slightly white tinted patina on the calf) as a tribute both to this individual female and that amazing white calf.
